Niko Kranjcar picks Anfield as his ideal getaway this summer

11 April 2012

Niko Kranjcar has set his sights on a summer move to Liverpool after deciding he has no future at Tottenham.

The Croatian midfielder, valued at about £6.5million, has been on the sidelines for much of his second season at White Hart Lane, making only 17 appearances in all competitions, with boss Harry Redknapp citing the emergence of Gareth Bale on the left wing as the reason for Kranjcar's lack of opportunities.

Kranjcar still has two years left on his Tottenham deal but is determined to leave at the end of the campaign, and is believed to have told friends that joining Liverpool, who are competing with Spurs and Manchester City for a place in next season's Champions League, is his preferred option.

Liverpool have been monitoring Kranjcar's situation for much of the season but he chose not to leave during the January transfer window. At the time, his wife, Simona, was due to give birth to their first child, daughter Loree.

Werder Bremen bid for the 26-year-old in January and plan to do so again during the summer, but Kranjcar would rather stay in the Premier League than move to the Bundesliga.

Kranjcar is at present nursing a foot injury he suffered in the 0-0 draw with Wigan.

Meanwhile, UEFA are sending police chief Jacques Antenen, vice-chairman of their disciplinary panel, to monitor tomorrow night's game at White Hart Lane after Real Madrid striker Emmanuel Adebayor claimed English fans racially abused him during last week's clash in Spain.
