Odion Ighalo has confirmed his exit from Manchester United, thanking the club for helping to make his “dream” move come true.

Ighalo, 31, joined United on loan from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua in January 2020 to boost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking options.

The boyhood United fan took a pay cut in order to seal a temporary move to Old Trafford, and scored five goals in 19 appearances last season to help the Red Devils finish third in the Premier League table.

Ighalo’s loan deal was extended from May 2020 until January 30 this year, but the Nigerian has found chances hard to come by in the 2020/21 season following Edinson Cavani’s arrival.

The striker has now taken to social media to effectively confirm this exit from United, but has paid tribute to the club and the fans for helping him realise a lifelong ambition.

Ighalo wrote a heartfelt Instagram telling of his joy at joining United, but also of his sadness as his “dream comes to an end”.

The forward followed that up on Twitter, saying: “Once a Red, always a Red.”
