Olivier Giroud plans Chelsea contract talks after rejecting Marseille move

Olivier Giroud has revealed he will have talks with Chelsea this season over extending his contract at the club.

The France international joined Chelsea from Arsenal for £18milion in January, but his deal expires at the end of the campaign.

Marseille were beaten to his signature by Chelsea, but had hoped to buy the 31-year-old this summer.

However, Giroud, who returned to training on Monday after his post-World Cup holiday, is committed to the club and is aiming to stay for at least another 12 months.

When asked by Standard Sport if he ever considered joining Marseille, he replied: "No, I am happy here at Chelsea. I just arrived a few months ago and am just starting to settle well.

"I still have one year (of my contract) to go with Chelsea, plus maybe another one. I'm going to discuss that with the club at the right time. There is no rush."

Giroud has also confirmed that both he and Eden Hazard have encouraged Lyon star Nabil Fekir to join Chelsea.

Fekir was left out of the Lyon squad that faced Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night as speculation over his future continues.

The 25-year-old saw a move to Liverpool break down earlier in the window and Giroud added: "I spoke to him when we were with the France team and his transfer to Liverpool was aborted.

"After that, it was a question about Chelsea. Even Eden had a couple of words with him. We'd welcome him, he's a great player and of course we'd welcome him with pleasure."
