Owen Coyle 'relaxed' as Bolton try to keep Elmander

Nearing the exit: Elmander will be a free agent at the end of the season if Bolton fail to convince him to sign a new contract

Owen Coyle says he is "relaxed" after Bolton chairman Phil Gartside opened talks to try to keep Johan Elmander at the club when his current deal expires in the summer.

The Swede is enjoying a purple patch after a difficult time and has scored eight goals already in a thrilling campaign.

Coyle said: "If players are playing well it is only natural bigger clubs will cast an eye on them. That is the nature of football and I am relaxed about it.

"Until those bids come in, it is all hypothetical. When they do we will give them respect and make a decision. I do not get caught up in it too much and beat myself up. Johan knows that.

"If it was a club of a similar size to Bolton I believe he would stay here. If an elite club came in Johan would be crazy not to think about it.

"I have no problems with that. Johan is well within his rights to do what is right for himself and his family. What I will do game by game is try to get the best out of him."

Coyle added: "Phil has had talks with Johan's representative and that will be on-going.

"Johan has been terrific from day one and if they decide they want it to run its course into January, then so be it."

Meanwhile ahead of the Barclays Premier League match against Blackpool on Saturday, South Korea winger Lee Chung-yong has signed a contract extension until 2013.

Lee, 24, has been in sparkling form for Bolton, who are lying fifth in the table.

Coyle, who arrived in January from Burnley, believes the future is looking ever brighter at the club.

He said: "We have signed Lee on a contract extension. It is great news for the club that such a talented player will be here for a long time.

"With the talent he has Lee is getting better day by day and I am thrilled he has signed up.

"What I am wary of is we do not burn him out as he has played two years without a break. He managed to have three weeks off after the World Cup that's all."

Lee, who arrived from FC Seoul last summer, has started all 14 league games this season and weighed in with two goals.
