Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be fit for World Cup - England manager Roy Hodgson

Fitness boost: Oxlade-Chamberlain will play in Brazil

England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that he expects injured midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to quickly regain full fitness and play a part at the World Cup.

Speaking after his side laboured to a 0-0 draw with Honduras at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, the England manager said: "Oxlade-Chamberlain is making good progress. I think he'll make the tournament without a shadow of a doubt.”

Hodgson hinted that the Arsenal midfielder would not be fit in time for England’s first match at the finals against Italy next Saturday but was recovering well.

A fit Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a big boost to an England side that looked short of ideas and pace against a well-organised but limited Honduras outfit.

The match, which was suspended for 40 minutes in the first half due to an electrical storm, never got going and Hodgson said: "It was a real stop-start game, one of the most frustrating I've been involved in for a long time."
