Paddy McCarthy says Crystal Palace have toughened up

Confident: Paddy McCarthy

Whatever side Dougie Freedman puts out against Bristol City tonight one thing they won't be lacking is confidence, according to Crystal Palace captain Paddy McCarthy.

Despite winning 2-0 at Watford on Saturday, Palace manager Freedman has said he will make changes to the team with Darren Ambrose, 17‑year‑old prodigy Jonny Williams, Mile Jedinak and Jermaine Easter all pushing for a start.

While managerless Bristol City are bottom of the table, Palace, buoyed by the spirit within the squad, hope to push themselves into the play-off places.

"The manager has instilled more steel and a bit more belief than last season," said McCarthy. "We have belief we can get three points wherever we are. We've just started a spell of seven games in three weeks and there will be lots of tired legs but we are picking up a lot of points."

Of the players hoping to start at Selhurst Park tonight, striker Easter made his point to Freedman by scoring a tremendous goal just seven minutes after coming on at Watford.

The manager said: "Jermaine trains hard all week and he's been unlucky not to find himself on the pitch more often."

Meanwhile, Freedman is keen to bring Aleksandar Tunchev back to the club in January.

The centre‑half joined in August but must return to Leicester in a fortnight when his 93‑day stay, the maximum permitted by an emergency loan, ends.

Freedman said: "I hope we can do something if Leicester don't want him. I'm hoping we've done enough with the way we've treated him."

At least Freedman has cover in Anthony Gardner for when Tunchev goes back.
