Pardew fears Demba Ba will leave

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has admitted that Demba Ba could leave Newcastle in January.

Ba’s agent this week suggested the 27-year-old is frustrated at not getting a regular start St James’ Park and contract negotiations have stalled.

There is a £7million buy-out clause in Ba’s contract and Pardew, while playing down talk of a rift, said: “It makes us vulnerable, it’s still open in the next window.

“I have spoken to Demba [about his agent] and told him that I was disappointed with some of the comments around him. But we know each other well enough and I’ve got no problems with him because he is a team player who wants to do his best for the team. He has always been like that.

“I just think the agent stuff was people saying things they shouldn’t say. It doesn’t really affect myself and Demba because we’ve got a very good relationship.”

Ba, Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye have not travelled to Portugal for tonight’s Europa League clash with Maritimo, while goalkeeper Tim Krul, Cheick Tiote, Fabricio Coloccini and Danny Simpson are injured.
