Patrick Bamford on European Super League reaction: Where’s the same uproar for racism?

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford has questioned the uproar over the European Super League compared to the reaction of racism in the game.

Twelve clubs - including the Premier League's so-called 'big six' - are part of plans which would fundamentally alter the shape of European football.

Leeds players came out for their warm-up wearing shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Earn It” under the Champions League logo - to which Jurgen Klopp voiced his displeasure ahead of the 1-1 draw.

The reaction to the proposals has been heavily negative, to which Bamford has lent his voice.

“I can’t quite comprehend it,” he told Sky Sports when asked about the breakaway league.

"From what I've seen on Twitter, I haven't seen one football fan who's happy about it. Football's for the fans. Without the fans, football clubs would be nothing. It's important we stand our ground."

"It’s amazing the amount of uproar that comes into the game when someone’s pocket is being hurt. It’s a shame it’s not like this with everything that’s going wrong in the game, like racism.

“It’s something we talk about but it’s not a big distraction – once you get on the pitch, you’re not thinking about it.

"We’re like fans really; we’re in shock. Without fans, football is nothing, so it’s important we stand our ground and show that football is for the fans and try to keep it that way.”
