Patrick Barclay: Liverpool reign of Luis Suarez is better than king Kenny’s

23 December 2013

Most of us fortunate enough to have experienced Kenny Dalglish’s playing career would rate him the best Liverpool footballer of our lifetimes, conceivably the best ever.

Until now. Dalglish never delivered a barrage of sustained brilliance to compare with that of Luis Suarez since the Uruguayan made his belated return to Premier League fields this season.

Much as Dalglish was loved for his craft, intelligence and ability to make and score goals, Suarez is exhibiting all he had and more. Both appear to have been born with razor brains but Suarez covers the ground faster and has more energy, making it even harder for defenders to keep track of his movement.

While not as physically strong as Dalglish, he compensates with relentless teasing of opponents, tempting fouls. If he continues to do it more ethically than last season, his right to the Footballer Of The Year award will be unchallengeable.
