Pedro has been urged to snub a transfer to Manchester United after Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov claimed "mediocre" Louis van Gaal is "destroying" the Red Devils.

Barca coach Luis Enrique hinted on Monday that Pedro's future at the Camp Nou will be sorted soon, with the winger believed to be on his way out of the Catalan club as he seeks regular first-team football.

However, Stoichkov - who is the only Barcelona player to have won the European Cup, the Golden Boot and the Ballon d’Or - thinks Van Gaal's treatment of Victor Valdes makes him a "bad" manager and demonstrates why Pedro should not sign for United this summer.

"I would never be under the orders of Van Gaal," the 49-year-old told Spanish radio Onda Cero. "He's mediocre.

"He destroyed Barca and he is destroying Manchester United.

"With what he has done to Valdes, he has shown he is a bad person. Hopefully Pedro listens to me and doesn't leave."

United kick-started the new Premier League campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday following Kyle Walker's own goal.

Van Gaal's side will now travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa in the first Friday night fixture of the new season later this week.
