Pep Guardiola claimed that the penalty Raheem Sterling won against Huddersfield was such a clear decision that even Arsene Wenger would back the Manchester City forward.

Sterling was furious after being denied a spot-kick by after being felled by Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl with City 1-0 down moments into the second half of Sunday's Premier League clash.

Despite that setback, Sterling was awarded a penalty by referee Craig Pawson within a minute after Scott Malone dragged the England international down in the area.

Sterling came under fire from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for the manner in which he won a spot-kick in City's 3-1 win against the Gunners on 5 November, with the coach claiming that the 22-year-old "dives well".

When asked by Sky Sports whether the referee was right to award the spot-kick, Guardiola replied: "Two clear penalties. Maybe Arsene will say that is [a] penalty."

Guardiola could not contain his delight after the final whistle, saluting the travelling City fans along with his players.

Speaking further about the victory, Guardiola told BBC's Match of the Day: "The Premier League is so tough, now winter has come, we knew they were so aggressive so strong, but we are so happy for the way we won.

"We spoke at half-time about how to react, we had enough chances to score and the first time Huddersfield had a chance they scored. We spoke about not giving up, to keep going.

"It was a brilliant move to win the penalty. "It is impossible to win every game easily, this league is so tough. The guys competed amazingly, which is why we won."
