Pep Guardiola says Manchester City still believe they can beat Liverpool and go through to the Champions League semi-finals despite losing 3-0 at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane put Jurgen Klopp's side 3-0 up in their quarter-final first-leg clash against City within just 31 minutes.

Despite Salah being forced off in the second half with an apparent groin injury, Liverpool defended solidly to win the game and take a huge advantage with them into the second leg, which will take place at the Etihad Stadium on 10 April.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson will miss that match after picking up a yellow card on Wednesday, and Guardiola insisted afterwards he doesn't have any regrets about how the first leg went - and believes his City side can still progress in the tie.

"We showed up from the beginning, we started with enormous personality but they scored a goal," he told BT Sport. "We continued to play but they scored two more goals. It is tough. They had 10-15 minutes in the first half when they were better.

"In the second half we tried everything but we couldn't find a goal. The first two goals, we had control of the game but they scored. I don't have too many regrets or complaints. Nobody believes but we have another game.

"They had two attacks and scored two goals. That was tough but for the rest of the game we were so, so good. We had to score a goal but they defended more.

"We have to accept it and now we have United at home and then Liverpool at home. We see what happens. Of course it is difficult but we believe."
