Phil Parkinson calls on Charlton to maintain fighting spirit

Ian Gibb11 April 2012

Charlton finally seem to have got the message that their promotion challenge requires consistent commitment after romping to a 3-0 win at Swindon last night.

The result was ample revenge for last season's play-off semi-final when Swindon beat Charlton on penalties at The Valley.

Johnnie Jackson got them off to a perfect start before second-half headers by Joe Anyinsah and the prolific Paul Benson eased them home.

Since that 4-0 home defeat by Brighton, Charlton have won at Carlisle — surviving a three-goal comeback — seen off Sheffield Wednesday at home and now accounted for Swindon to go fifth in League One.

Phil Parkinson even resisted making substitutions at 3-0 in a bid to avoid a repeat of the collapse at Carlisle.

He said: "It was a professional performance, though we had to rely on keeper Rob Elliot for a couple of crucial saves in the first half. I hope that the Brighton defeat was the turning point but we've got to keep it going."
