Pim Balkestein is Brentford's monster

Pim Balkestein, Brentford's Dutch central defender, hopes the sight of his masked face will frighten off a few strikers in the coming weeks.

Balkestein needed an operation after breaking his nose against Bristol Rovers last weekend.

The Dutchman will wear the mask in the home game with Hartlepool tomorrow and then against Everton in next week's Carling Cup tie at Griffin Park.

Balkestein said: I have to wear a mask now. It looks a bit rough so maybe the strikers will be worried."
