Christian Eriksen said Tottenham had to play their best football to wrestle back control of Wednesday's League Cup semi-final against Sheffield United.

Spurs brought a 1-0 lead into the second leg and Christian Eriksen doubled their advantage in the first period at Bramall Lane as Mauricio Pochettino's side seemingly marched towards Wembley.

But Blades substitute Che Adams scored a second-half brace to level up the tie on aggregate and extra-time was looming in Sheffield when Eriksen popped up with the final word.

The Denmark international calmly slotted a left-footed shot past Mark Howard to send the travelling Tottenham fans into raptures and the club to the national stadium for the first time since 2012.

After the final whistle, Eriksen himself said: "When they scored they got confidence, and you saw the crowd, but we had to play our best.

"To be in the final is what everyone wants at Tottenham."
