A proposal to push back the Premier League restart date to June 26 is expected to get the green light this week, according to reports.

The Sun claims that clubs are in favour of scrapping plans to begin on June 12 with just over a fortnight to go and players yet to resume full contact training.

That date has always been described by the top flight's chief executive Richard Masters as a flexible "staging post", and it now looks likely to be moved.

A third round of coronavirus testing will take place this week before clubs make a decision on the second phase of training as Project Restart gathers momentum. Clubs could also pencil in the new restart date at the same Premier League conference call on Thursday.

The PFA and managers are also said to be keen for a full month of full training before a return to competitive action gets the green light, raising the possibility of a resumption later in June.

An unnamed Bournemouth player is one of two new cases discovered in the second round of coronavirus testing at Premier League clubs.

A Cherries statement said: "Following strict adherence of The Premier League's return to training regulations, the club's training ground remains a safe working environment for players and staff, who will continue to be tested for Covid-19 twice a week."
