Shahid Khan has delivered a strong message of support to under-pressure boss Slavisa Jokanovic despite Fulham’s “bitterly disappointing” start to the season.

Despite a £100million spending spree during the summer, Fulham have only five points from their opening nine games and find themselves in the Premier League’s bottom three ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Bournemouth – which Khan will attend.

Khan was at Fulham’s training ground in New Malden today and planned to hold talks with Jokanovic, with the club deciding to release his programme notes for the Bournemouth game 48 hours early.

Addressing the talk that Jokanovic was facing the sack, Khan wrote: “I am in equal parts amused, astonished and disappointed.

“Our results one-fourth of the way through our return to the Premier League have been bitterly disappointing [but] we have a head coach in Slavisa Jokanovic who not only understands and appreciates the honour of representing Fulham, but in the past two seasons the right formula with his personnel to hit our stride in time for the holidays (Christmas period).

“Slavisa’s record shows he has always led FFC admirably when the stakes are at their highest, and with 29 matches still to play in the league, I am sure the same will hold true this season.”

“As for the sensational and fictional headlines related to Slavisa this week, I’m equal parts amused, astonished and disappointed. I ask you not to believe everything you read. Or, in this case, don’t believe anything you read.”

Khan’s interest in Wembley made some fans – of Fulham and other clubs – fear that he would attempt to move the Cottagers to the national stadium, something he denies.

He says he remains focused on the redevelopment of Craven Cottage’s Riverside Stand, which he hopes will feature “a café, leisure and exercise facilities, roof garden and other features. I wanted to emphasise once again to the Fulham community that I am committed to the renovation of Craven Cottage as our traditional, spiritual and hallowed home ground.

“While I’ve tried to make this point clear over several years…misunderstandings or doubts will occasionally surface. You can judge me by my actions but until then, I ask you to take my word.”
