Ryo Miyaichi is savouring the prospect of a first Premier League appearance for Arsenal, after representing the Gunners in their Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce.

Miyaichi moved to the Emirates in 2011 but has since only managed to taste top flight football during respective loan spells at Wigan and Bolton.

And the 20-year-old’s first Champions League appearance on Tuesday evening has motivated him to fight for a place in the Gunners matchday squad to face fierce rivals Tottenham.

“I’m not sure yet but this is my first time to play against Spurs as an Arsenal player, so I’m so excited about it and hopefully I will get the opportunity to play.

“If I get the opportunity I want to show my quality and I want to do something for the team.”

The Japan international says he is well aware of the history behind Sunday’s derby match and has vowed to battle for the cause.

“Yes I know that,” he said, when asked about the importance of the occasion. “So I will do my best.”
