Swansea boss Graham Potter in line for Brighton job after Chris Hughton sacking

Swansea manager Graham Potter is in line to take over at Brighton after the club sacked manager Chris Hughton this morning.

Potter, who spent seven years as manager of Swedish side Ostersund, made his first step into British management last year when appointed as Swansea boss following their relegation from the top flight and lead them to a 10th place finish, nine points off the play-offs, while giving youth a chance after the departures of several senior figures. The Swans dressing room are braced for the departure of the 43-year-old after just 11 months in charge.

Hughton, 60, left Brighton less than 24 hours after the ending the Premier League with a 4-1 defeat to champions Manchester City following four-and-a-half years in charge on the south coast.

The former Tottenham player took the Seagulls to the Championship play-offs in his first full season at the helm before guiding them to the Premier League in 2017.

Hughton maintained that survival was always the goal for his side, however, after seeing them finish just two points from safety this in their second season since promotion, and with just two wins since the turn of the year, chairman Tony Bloom decided it was time for a change.

Brighton are declining to comment on their search for a new manager but it is expected it will be lead by new technical director Dan Ashworth, who was thought to be in attendance at a recent Swansea match.
