Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has ruled out an immediate sporting director role for Arsene Wenger with the French champions.

Wenger heads into the summer as a free agent for the first time in 22 years after leaving Arsenal, meanwhile stressing he is not set to retire.

PSG have been linked with interest in recent months, though recently hired Thomas Tuchel on a two-year deal, but Al-Khelaifi appeared to rule out a backroom role for Wenger.

"He is a close friend," he told L'Equipe. "I have a lot of admiration and respect for him and for everything he has done in football. He is a great man.

"He is one of the first people I spoke to before buying the club. And he told me one thing that I have never forgotten: 'You are buying a diamond and you must prune it and make it shine.'

"I don’t know what he will do, but he will have a lot of offers. Today, the sporting director, is Antero Henrique and he will stay."

Al-Khelaifi also does not expect PSG to be punished by Uefa over Financial Fair Play after Europe's governing body launched an investigation after big-money deals for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

"First, we always followed the rules," he said. "It's true that Uefa is very tough in the discussions and sometimes even unfair. [But] for me, honestly, it would be surprising, abnormal and scandalous to be punished.
