QPR could lose promotion to Premier League

Promotion bid: QPR's Shaun Derry (left) challenges for the ball

Queens Park Rangers' automatic promotion to the Premier League could be blocked by the Football Association.

The west London club, five points clear at the top of the Championship, face a deduction of up to 15 points if found guilty of breaking third-party ownership rules over the signing of Alejandro Faurlin. There is believed to be strong evidence against Neil Warnock's team and they may have to settle for a place in the play-offs.

The hearing into the transfer of the Argentinian midfielder two years ago begins on Tuesday and a verdict will be given three days later - 24 hours before the final game of the season.
