Raheem Sterling scored inside three minutes of his debut for Manchester City during this morning's pre-season friendly against Roma in Melbourne.

However, the 20-year-old appeared to have made a disastrous start to his career in Sky Blue when he fell over the ball after taking his very first touch for Manuel Pellegrini's side.

Yet the England international, who completed a protracted £49 million move Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium earlier this month, dusted himself down and found the net seconds later.

Sterling produced a perfectly timed run to beat the Italian outfit's offside trap, broke clear and slotted the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

The finish was a clinical one and, after his transfer has caused an almighty furore throughout the summer, the youngster has finally been allowed to let his football do the talking.
