Rangers ‘to keep titles’

28 February 2013

Rangers will not be stripped of any Scottish Premier League titles following an investigation into alleged undisclosed payments.

The Commission appointed by the League were set to publish their findings today after examining whether the company which formerly ran the club broke the rules.

If Rangers are found guilty, other sanctions could be applied but it is understood the club, banished to the Third Division last summer, will not lose any titles.

The investigation relates to the period during which Rangers operated employee benefits trusts that were also the subject of a long-running tax tribunal.

HM Revenue and Customs claimed the scheme, which was used to make £47.65million in payments to players and staff in the form of tax-free loans, was illegal. Rangers won the SPL five times after initiating EBTs for players.
