Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil worries over Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo was overshadowed by Karim Benzema as Real Madrid beat LA Galaxy in Phoenix last night but all the talk was still about the Portuguese’s possible return to Manchester United.

Ronaldo set up Angel Di Maria’s first goal but after hitting the bar and squandering a host of chances to score, he made way for Benzema at half-time and saw the Frenchman score twice in the 3-1 win.

However, his team-mates are concerned about United’s interest, which follows news that Ronaldo is demanding annual wages of £17.5million after tax to remain at the Bernabeu. Reports suggest talks have been taking place between the two clubs with Real needing to raise funds to sign Gareth Bale for £100m.

Mesut Ozil said: “Ronaldo is very important to the team, just look at all the goals he has scored.

“He’s a great person. I hope he can stay here for a long time because he can help us win important titles.

“We have come very close to winning the Champions League and that leaves a very bitter taste.

“What we hope is that we can go further this season. I believe we are good enough to make the final.”
