Reece James provides clear update on Chelsea future amid Real Madrid transfer links

Reece James has delivered the clearest update on his Chelsea future to date.

One of the club’s leading players, the England international had previously been touted as somewhat of a surprise target for the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid, with James’ contract currently due to expire in the summer of 2025.

The last time the 22-year-old was rewarded with a new deal was back in 2020 and the academy graduate has only improved from there.

During a season in which Thomas Tuchel’s side struggled to match the firepower of Liverpool and Manchester City, James’ 5 goals and 9 assists in only 22 Premier League starts proved invaluable in ensuring they did not drop out of the top four altogether.

The defender’s injury, picked up during a draw at home with Brighton in December, was seen as a major turning point in the club’s season as their title challenge collapsed.

Back to full fitness and in a further boost for Chelsea after Mason Mount also revealed he was eager to stay at Stamford Bridge, James told BBC Sport: “I grew up as a Chelsea fan and I’ve made my name playing here, the club I’ve always supported.

“I don’t see why anything would change. I play for Chelsea now and I’m enjoying it.”
