Robin Van Persie: We’re already thinking of City

Arsenal's winning streak came to an end so abruptly they could almost be forgiven for dwelling on their shortcomings against Queens Park Rangers.

But rather than mulling over a 2-1 defeat which came after seven consecutive League victories, captain Robin van Persie has encouraged his side to switch their focus to Manchester City’s visit on Sunday.

The Dutchman, who for the first time this season has not scored in three consecutive League matches, also denied that the squad’s lead over Tottenham had made them complacent.

“We will have a couple of days to be disappointed but after that our focus is on Manchester City,” he said.

“Everyone is disappointed but towards the end of the week I am sure the spirit will be how it was.

“Even last week when we were three points ahead with eight games to go we never thought it was done.

“We have seven big games to play but if you look at the big name teams then we have City and Chelsea. As a football fan I always like to play those games and one of them is next week.”

Van Persie feels Arsenal must head into the final stage of what has been a difficult season in positive mood.

“We have seven more games to play and I believe we can come third,” added the 28-year-old.

“It won’t be easy, everyone is fighting for every point and our opportunity is next week against Manchester City.

“We have to go for it and believe — and we will.”
