Romelu Lukaku: I didn't have anything to prove to Chelsea in FA Cup win

Romelu Lukaku has insisted he was not out to prove Chelsea made a mistake by selling him to Everton when he played his former side in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Lukaku scored two superb goals in the second half of Everton's quarter-final clash at home to Chelsea to book the Toffees' place in the next round at the expense of his old side.

His performance at Goodison Park on Saturday, coupled with his form this season, raises questions as to why the reigning Premier League champions decided to let the striker depart in 2014 - although Lukaku has insisted he has no regrets over the move and remains grateful for his time at Chelsea.

Speaking after the 2-0 win, Lukaku told BBC Sport: "It feels great, I am just happy for the team and to do something we wanted. Now we have 90 minutes to go and we delivered a good performance after the loss against West Ham.

"I think the first goal is the best thing, I didn't know where I was going but then I was in the box. I saw Gary Cahill not know where he was going so I shifted it onto my left foot.

"It was just another goal and happy for the team. If you wan to win cups, you have to beat the big teams.

"I don't think I have anything to prove to Chelsea, I went there as an 18-year-old and learnt the trade of being a professional footballer. I will always be grateful to them.

"If we work hard and are clinical offensively and defensively, we have a chance."

The defeat leaves Chelsea's season in tatters after the Blues were dumped out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

Their only hope of securing European football for next season will now be through the league, although Chelsea currently sit seven points off sixth-place Manchester United.
