Romelu Lukaku plays down duel with rival Harry Kane as pair battle for Premier League Golden Boot

Romelu Lukaku has played down the importance of his Golden Boot duel with Harry Kane ahead of Everton's trip to Tottenham this weekend.

Spurs host the Toffees at White Hart Lane aiming to keep up the pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea while Ronald Koeman's side remain in the frame for a Europa League place.

The two sides drew 1-1 at Goodison Park earlier in the season and much of the pre-match build up has surrounded Kane and Lukaku, who are level on 17 goals at the top of the scoring charts.

Kane is enjoying a rich vein of form, having scored a hat-trick in his last appearance, while Lukaku boosted his individual tally with a four-goal haul in Everton's recent 6-3 victory over Bournemouth.

The duo are set to battle it out for the Golden Boot during the run-in - along with Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa and Zlatan Ibrahimovic - but Lukaku is determined to focus on himself rather than the exploits of others.

“For me It’s just Tottenham v Everton,” Lukaku told the club's official website.

“I don’t like to look at what other players are doing. That’s what cost me the Golden Boot last year so for me it’s just a game I want to win.

“It’s about winning games and scoring as many goals as possible," he added.

Kane won the prestigious award last season, courtesy of a 25-goal haul, while Lukaku finished in fourth place with a tally of just 18.

The Belgian striker's latest effort saw him equal Everton's all-time Premier League goal record but Lukaku is in no mood to dwell on the achievement, with his eyes firmly fixed on victory at White Hart Lane.

"Records are there to be broken but I don’t want to hype that. The most important thing is that we win because I want us to achieve the highest place possible.

"I’m a guy that always wants to move forward and looking to the next game. For us that’s Tottenham so that’s the most important thing,” he added.
