Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea: Michael Emenalo safe as technical director and backs Antonio Conte's £50 million bid

Michael Emenalo’s job as Chelsea’s technical director is not under threat and he will be part of the set-up under new coach Antonio Conte.

Emenalo’s position at the club had been rumoured to be in jeopardy following the club’s poor campaign.

Chelsea have struggled in the Premier League and were knocked out of all three cup competitions by March, while Emenalo’s work in the transfer market has come under scrutiny.

However, Standard Sport understands Emenalo’s role is not under review.

The former Nigeria international, who has been at the club since 2007, is already chasing transfer targets for next season on Conte’s behalf.

Emenalo was with the Italian at the club’s training base on Tuesday as he made a surprise visit to greet the players.

Emenalo is supporting Conte’s desire to sign striker Romelu Lukaku for £50million from Everton, just two years after Chelsea decided to sell him for £28m.

It is understood Emenalo has always rated the 22-year-old Belgium international highly and did not want Chelsea to sell him.

Lukaku has scored 45 goals for Everton since joining them on a permanent basis from Chelsea.
