Sam Allardyce weighs up action over Steve Kean rant

Sam Allardyce is taking legal advice after a video was posted on YouTube today which appeared to show Steve Kean slamming the West Ham manager.

The four-minute film, which was taken during Blackburn’s tour of the Far East last summer, also shows the manager talking of a top-10 finish for Rovers and a Carling Cup triumph.

While Kean was way off with his predictions — Blackburn were relegated after finishing 19th in the Premier League and knocked out of the Carling Cup at the quarter-final stage — it is criticisms of his predecessor that could cost him.

Kean was first-team coach under Allardyce at Blackburn but took over the manager’s job in December 2010 after his boss was sacked.

The West Ham chief said today: “I am aware of the footage and all I can say at this stage is that I have put the matter in the hands of my legal advisors.”

The release of the video appears to be timed to coincide with a meeting Kean was having today with the club’s owners, Venky’s, in India.

Throughout the season, Blackburn supporters have campaigned for Kean to be sacked and have also protested against the owners.

Supporters’ body — the BRFC Action Group — have been granted meetings with Government and the Premier League to air their concerns about Venky’s. Blackburn refused to comment on this issue or the video.
