Sam Saunders is no longer a quitter

Sam Saunders has got his Brentford career back on track — thanks to asking manager Andy Scott if he could quit the club.

The 26-year-old wanted a loan move after growing frustrated by his lack of first-team football.
Scott rejected the request and instead gave the former Dagenham and Redbridge striker the change to impress.

Saunders said: "I was on the sidelines thinking I could be fifth, sixth, seventh or even eighth choice at one stage.

"It was a dark time for me. I told the gaffer I was willing to work for my place as long I got a fair crack of the whip. I mentioned going on loan but he said to sit tight.

"After a few performances he said there was no chance I was going on loan. It was music to my ears."

Meanwhile, Millwall boss Kenny Jackett needs his team to regain their cutting-edge for tomorrow's clash at play-off rivals MK Dons.

Millwall's five-game winning run ended with a 1-0 loss at Wycombe and Jackett said: "Sometimes our attacking play was not up to scratch."
