Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Bosnian international Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old has signed a "long-term" deal, confirmed by the player to be five years, and will formally join up with Arsene Wenger’s squad on the expiry of his contract on July 1.

Kolasinac is expected to battle with Nacho Monreal for a regular starting role though the former’s arrival could signal a commitment to continue with the 3-4-2-1 that brought Arsenal nine wins in their final 10 games of the season.

In over half of his appearances last season Kolasinac appeared on the left side of midfield or in a wing-back role in Schalke’s 3-5-2, having also played at centre-back and in defensive midfield early in his career.

The transfer will also cast further doubt over Kieran Gibbs’ future at Arsenal. The Hale End youth product has just over 12 months remaining on his contract and started only eight Premier League games during the season.
