Slaven Bilic says he can't solve West Ham's problems in the transfer market and believes "hard work" can instead reverse their form.

The Hammers have lost all three of their opening Premier League matches despite making five signings this summer including a club-record splurge on Marko Arnautovic.

And while Bilic has not ruled out making one further signing before Thursday's deadline, he says West Ham will not go on a last-ditch spree in a bid to solve on-field issues.

The West Ham boss told the club's official website: “I talked to the guys after the game [at Newcastle] and I said ‘nobody can take us out of this situation but ourselves'.

"There is no other thing to do than to work hard, to dig in and for us to show the quality we have got on paper, on the pitch.”

West Ham are still attempting to negotiate a deal for William Carvalho, but the Hammers' latest offer is £5million short of Sporting Lisbon's valuation.

Asked if a delve into the market could correct West Ham's form, Bilic added: “It’s not about the transfer window.

“OK, we were looking for one more player, but we had done a good job on paper in the transfer window.

“We made a good squad, a squad which looked good enough to have a good season. OK, it’s still early in the season, but it’s not about the transfer window. It wasn’t because of one player – we didn’t look good as a team.”
