Manchester City are in pole position to beat Tottenham and Arsenal to the signing of French starlet M’Baye Niang.

Caen forward Niang spent a few days on trial at Arsenal last week but City supremo Brian Marwood has personally approached his French Second Division side for talks, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 17-year-old, who has already made 30 first-team appearances, is valued at £6million and is seen as a player who could go straight into boss Roberto Mancini’s senior squad.

Niang will decide on a move before the transfer window shuts.
