Spurs are down but must not lose our faith, says Lloris

Hugo Lloris has urged Tottenham to maintain the belief required to qualify for the Champions League after suffering their first League defeat this year.

The loss at Anfield brought to a halt a 12-match unbeaten run in the Premier League and denied Spurs the chance to move 10 points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal.

Lloris’ failure to deal with Kyle Walker’s bizarre back pass handed the equaliser to Stewart Downing when Spurs led 2-1 and further mistakes from Jermain Defoe and Benoit Assou-Ekotto led to a penalty that Steven Gerrard converted to seal the points.

Lloris insisted, however, that Spurs must not be downhearted.

“This game must not break our confidence,” said the France goalkeeper. “We did great things before this game and mistakes can always happen during the season.

“The important thing is to win all our games at home and to add good results away. We are disappointed but we can think a lot of positive things after this game.”

Spurs’ thoughts now turn to the second leg of their last-16 Europa League tie against Inter in Milan.

Andre Villas-Boas’ team are protecting a 3-0 lead and are without the suspended Gareth Bale but Aaron Lennon and Emmanuel Adebayor are set to travel to Italy despite missing yesterday’s game through hamstring and knee injuries respectively.
