Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah both lavished praise on Stefan Bajcetic for his performance during Liverpool’s win over Everton.

Salah and Cody Gakpo scored in a routine win at Anfield to put Klopp’s side within touching distance of Newcastle in fourth ahead of their trip to St James’ Park on Saturday.

During what has been a difficult season for the club, the teenager has emerged as a genuine reason for optimism.

Much has been made about Liverpool’s midfield struggles but the 18-year-old continues to impress and offers hope going forward.

A major rebuild has been called for but the Spanish U19 international could perhaps offer an internal solution, potentially saving the club at least some money this summer.

Bajcetic enjoyed a brilliant first Merseyside derby, with Salah hailing him as “a great player and person, he always tries to work hard.

“Since he started playing for us, he has been our best player maybe so hopefully he keeps that confidence and keeps going.”

Klopp, meanwhile, added: “We are really happy with him, a top boy, really smart and calm. He played in a new position, at eight, and I asked him afterwards if he liked it and he said yes.

“It is a nice story.”
