Sunderland vs Tottenham team news: Hugo Loris misses out with illness as Harry Kane returns

Sam Long31 January 2017

Hugo Lloris has not been included in Tottenham's starting line up for tonight's Premier League clash against Sunderland due to illness.

Michel Vorm will deputise for the Frenchman, who has not played since making two mistakes during a 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose have all returned to the side after recovering from minor injuries.

Eric Dier has been paired next to Alderweireld in defence as Mauricio Pochettino appears to have named a 4-2-3-1 formation.

The north Londoners have been installed as clear favourites with the Black Cats in a perilous position at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Spurs, meanwhile, are unbeaten in seven top-flight fixtures and will be keen to cut Chelsea's lead at the top of the table.

WHAT THEY SAID

Mauricio Pochettino: "I think England is special for that situation. In Spain and France it is different. If you make changes for Copa del Rey or Coupe de France it's okay, but here if you don't win you are dead.

"We are now in a good position in the FA Cup, the Europa League, and the Premier League. We will try to manage the three competitions and try in the end to be successful in all three, two, or one."

Davd Moyes: "Tottenham are playing really well; whoever they've played they've matched very well, if not bettered them.

"Tottenham are there or thereabouts and they don't look any less than the team that finished third last year, so I think they'll still be close this year."
