Support: Carlo Ancelotti has backed his captain

Carlo Ancelotti has backed captain John Terry following allegations that he received cash for a behind-the-scenes tour of the club's Cobham training ground.

A Sunday newspaper claimed Terry accepted £10,000 to arrange a visit for an undercover reporter to the club's state-of-the-art training ground in Surrey.

But manager Ancelotti defended Terry following the 1-1 draw at Upton Park which moved Chelsea four points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The Chelsea boss said: "This is not correct. This is not true.

"The club, me, the players, have a lot of confidence in John Terry and he did nothing wrong.

"He was very quiet, calm and very concentrated for the game."

The club had earlier released a statement defending the England captain. A spokesman said: "Contrary to media reports and the appearance of edited video this morning, the club are confident that at no time did John Terry ask for or accept money in relation to visits to the training ground."

Meanwhile, Michael Ballack is confident young striker Daniel Strurridge can keep Chelsea's title bid on track when Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou go to the Africa Cup of Nations' next month.

Ballack said: "Daniel can do it in January — he has to. We will miss two strikers, Didier especially. He is still a young player but now he has a big chance to show his qualities, which he has.

"He's been unlucky with injury, but has an opportunity to get more games and help the team."
