'Thank you Kieran': Tottenham's Trippier advised Burnley loan move, reveals Georges-Kevin Nkoudou

Georges-Kevin Nkoudou says Tottenham teammate Kieran Trippier had a big influence on his decision to join Burnley on loan.

Spurs confirmed the winger’s January move, which sees him join the Clarets until the end of the season, on Tuesday afternoon as he goes in search of first team Premier League experience.

The 22-year-old joined Spurs from French side Marseille in 2016 but is yet to make an impact in north London, having been restricted to a fringe role since his arrival.

Before making the decision to head out on loan Nkoudou sought advice from Trippier, who made 185 appearances for the Clarets before joining Spurs.

“When I spoke with Trippier he told me good things about this club, about the players and everything about Burnley. I am happy to be here, so thank-you Trippier,” Nkoudou told the Burnley website.

“I think it’s a big opportunity to play my first minutes this season in the Premier League.

“Everyone is shocked because Burnley is just after the big six. They have played very well.

“I watched the last game against Liverpool when they played very well and were unlucky.

“That’s why I have come here, to find football.”

Nkoudou’s departure frees up space for fit-again Erik Lamela to be named in the Champions League squad for the knockout stages, having been left out of the group stage squad due to Uefa’s guidelines on overseas players.
