Theo Walcott sets the standard for schoolboy team-mate Scott Doe

Strike partner: Scott Doe is convinced he can be a star

While Theo Walcott is strutting his stuff for England against Switzerland tonight, his former AFC Newbury strike partner will be preparing for Dagenham & Redbridge's clash with Bournemouth on Saturday.

And Scott Doe is convinced he can be a star in his own right as the Daggers bid to maintain their League One status against all the odds.

"Theo and I played up front together between the ages of 10 and 13, and we used to score 150 goals a season," Doe said. "He usually got about 100 of them, and I would get 50 over a 30-game season. We were used to winning every game 7-0.

"Theo had so much raw pace that nobody could live with him. What he's gone on to do is unbelievable.

"If he ever wants to watch a Daggers game he is more than welcome!"

Christian Dailly out for five weeks

Charlton's League One promotion hopes have suffered a blow after centre-back Christian Dailly was ruled out for up to five weeks with a fractured eye socket.

The 36-year-old former West Ham defender was injured in the first-half of last Wednesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy win against Dagenham & Redbridge but refused to be substituted and will undergo surgery tomorrow.

"He will miss four to five weeks," said Charlton manager Phil Parkinson.

"The good thing is that because of the nature of the problem, he'll be able to do physical work after a few days rest, so when he comes back he should be close to match fitness."

And Parkinson admits his team will improve as the season progresses after a busy close season at the Valley saw 10 players join the club over the summer.

"It takes time and we have to accept that— I'm confident we will challenge," he added.

Meanwhile, Charlton's Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round clash with MK Dons on 5 October will be broadcast live on Sky.

Russell Slade slams Orient flops

Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade has demanded an improvement from his side when they host Huddersfield this weekend.

Orient pulled off an impressive win at Brighton last week but were outplayed as they lost 2-0 at Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

Slade has told his men to show more consistency and said: "We're better than that. We didn't show it, but there will be another day and we'll dust ourselves down. Our pride is hurt at the minute but we need to bounce back."

And striker Scott McGleish reckons Huddersfield's free-flowing football could play into Orient's hands.

"We might be able to get our passing game going [against Huddersfield] and it's going to come down to who wants it the most," he said.
