Thomas Tuchel outlines Chelsea transfer plans and possible ‘late’ summer deals

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has explained what he is looking for in the transfer market as the pursuit of Jules Kounde rumbles on, hinting at possible deals later in the summer window.

Standard Sport understands that the Blues are yet to agree fee with Sevilla for the centre-back and fear being gazumped by Barcelona for a second time this summer, after Raphinha opted for Camp Nou over Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel was furious over the weekend after seeing Chelsea convincingly beaten 4-0 by Arsenal in Orlando, which saw the manager deploy both a four- and three-man defence.

Speaking to the club's official website regarding transfer targets, Tuchel said: "We are looking for guys who can play on the left side.

"Toni [Rudiger] played on the left side and was not a left-footed guy, so maybe Kalidou [Koulibaly] can play there because he plays in a back-four on the left side, but let’s see what is possible.

"It is not only about bringing players in for numbers; we need numbers, we also need quality so we will make some decisions late, not only about players but also about systems.

"Ideally we would have a left-footer."
