Tickets to Leicester City’s final home game of the season, in which they could be crowned Premier League champions, are selling for over £7,000 on secondary ticketing websites.

The 7 May meeting with Everton sold out in 90 minutes when tickets were sold on Monday but several tickets were swiftly made available online elsewhere, with individual home tickets being priced at anywhere from £2,600 to £7,869.144.

By contrast tickets to the FA Cup Final are available on the same website for at maxiumum of £3972 and even VIP tickets to England's Euro 2016 clash with Wales are not as expensive as the most pricey of tickets for the East Stand of the King Power Stadium.

Leicester have vowed to take action against touts, with a club spokesman telling the Leicester Mercury: “The unauthorised sale of football tickets is a criminal offence under UK law. Leicester City Football Club will take action against any ticket touting or any attempt to resell tickets for above their face value.

“We encourage all supporters to report any such activity to the Club.”

However the action is too late for some supporters, with a host of gold and silver members posting on the club’s Facebook page to bemoan missing out on what could be the most remarkable title party in recent memory.

David Lea wrote: “Very bad when they are on ticket sites at anything from £495 to £5,000. Who's giving the touts these tickets? What's the point of being a gold/silver member? I'd like to hear the club's views on this.”

Tickets for the club’s final game of the season, away to Chelsea, have not yet gone on sale.

Leicester currently lead Tottenham by seven points with five games remaining of the season. Should they win three of those games they will be champions, whilst they have already secured a berth in the Champions League qualifying round.
