Timo Werner shirt number: Squad options for Chelsea's latest signing

Chelsea have pulled off what is likely to be one of the transfer coups of the summer by signing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner ahead of long-time admirers Liverpool.

Frank Lampard is understood to have made a number of phone calls to convince a player once set on a move to Anfield, following quick work from Blues transfer chief Marina Granovskaia.

Chelsea will make Werner one of their highest-paid players, on a contract worth around £200,000-a-week plus bonuses.

Lampard was looking for attacking reinforcements ahead of the expected departures of Willian and Pedro, perhaps hinting at which shirt Werner will pick upon his expected arrival at Stamford Bridge.

The current vacant Chelsea shirt numbers, under no.30, are 6, 25, 26 and 27.

However, Willian's no.10 and Pedro's no.11 shirts will become available upon their expected summer exits.

Werner wears no.11 for RB Leipzig and has worn the same number for Germany on occasion.

A same shirt at Chelsea is likely. Fellow summer arrival Hakim Ziyech wears no.22 for Ajax, a shirt taken by Christian Pulisic last year, but could be tempted by a promotion to no.10.

Will Chelsea have a new no.10 and no.11 next season? It appears so.
