Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has admitted today's 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the north London derby 'feels like a loss'.

Spurs started the game well and were on top during the opening exchanges but fell behind to Aaron Ramsey's delicate backheel.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were given a route back into the game in the second half when Francis Coquelin was sent off for a second yellow card and Alderweireld slammed home from close range to level the scores.

Harry Kane's individual strike put the hosts back in the driving seat and Spurs appeared to be heading towards the top of the Premier League table with victory over their fierce rivals.

However, Alexis Sanchez netted an equaliser in the 76th minute and the spoils were shared between the two sides.

Spurs still boast a three-point advantage over their neighbours but Alderweireld has conceded that the result is a difficult one to take for him and his teammates.

"If we had a little bit more luck we could have won here, but unfortunately not," the Belgian told the club's official website.

"It feels like a loss. It feels like we should have won.

"But that's the mentality of the team - we have to take that to the next game and try to get back to winning goals."

Speaking of his goal, Alderweireld insisted that he could no longer enjoy the moment as the team had failed to win.

"I'd rather have three points than score," he added. "I'm glad to help the team but i can't celebrate or enjoy it now because we drew."

Spurs face Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on Thursday night before they take on strugglers Aston Villa next Sunday.
