Tom Huddlestone has become a key member at Spurs this season

Tom Huddlestone today committed his long-term future to Tottenham by signing a new contract that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2015.

The midfielder's existing deal was due to expire at the end of next season but Spurs have now moved to tie him down.

After initially playing a peripheral role when Harry Redknapp took over as manager in October 2008, Huddlestone has become a key member of the team this season, although he is out of action after sustaining ankle ligament damage in the 2-1 win over Everton on 28 February.

Huddlestone, 23, has made 26 appearances in the League this season, forming a strong central partnership with Wilson Palacios and forcing his way into Fabio Capello's England squad.

The former Derby player made his debut in the 1-0 friendly defeat by Brazil on 14 November.

Huddlestone hopes to be back in action in a month to ensure he is chosen in Capello's 23-man party for the World Cup.
