Victor Wanyama hit a late winner as Tottenham registered their first win of the Premier League season against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The summer signing found space in the Palace box to head Harry Kane's flick-on goalwards with less than 10 minutes to go as the Palace resistance was broken.

Alan Pardew's men had largely frustrated Tottenham until the breakthrough, with Toby Alderweireld and Vincent Janssen missing golden chances as the game looked set to end goalless.

Indeed, Alderweireld should have put the hosts in front as he rose highest to head Erik Lamela's corner staright at Wayne Hennessey.

There were raised eyebrows as Pochettino opted to start Janssen ahead of Dele Alli, but the latter replaced Eriksen after the hour-mark and immediately injected the quality Spurs had been lacking in their bid to break down Palace.

The England man lifted a perfectly-weighted ball into the path of Janseen, who skewed his effort wide with the goal at his mercy.

But Wanyama was on hand to spare his team-mates blushes as his 83rd-minute header snatched the points.
