Tottenham have lodged an appeal to the Premier League for the club's winning goal against Stoke to be awarded to Harry Kane and not Christian Eriksen.

Kane insisted after the 2-1 win at the bet365 Stadium that he had touched Eriksen's free-kick with his shoulder, but the Premier League later ruled that the Dane's strike had flown directly into the net on Saturday.

Kane currently has 24 Premier League goals this season, five behind top scorer Mohamed Salah.

With the Spurs striker keen to end the season with the Golden Boot award for the second straight year, Standard Sport understands that Tottenham have asked the Premier League to credit their second goal against Stoke to Kane and not Eriksen.

Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino insisted he did not care who scored the winner, only that Tottenham secured all three points in a tough match for the Champions League hopefuls.

But Kane said after the victory: "I swear on my daughter’s life that I touched the ball, but there’s nothing I can do.

"If they turn it around, they turn it around. If they take my word, they take my word. It is what it is, the most important thing is that we won the game."

Eriksen, who scored Tottenham's first goal against Stoke in the 52nd minute, said: "He celebrated like it was his goal so I will have to take his word for it."
