Tottenham cracked under the pressure of Premier League title race vs Leicester - Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle

Tottenham 'cracked' under the pressure of trying to chase down Leicester in the Premier League title race, according to Spurs Legend Glenn Hoddle.

The north London club bowed out of the title race with a 2-2 draw against rivals Chelsea, a game which they led by two goals at the halfway stage.

Nine Spurs players were booked at Stamford Bridge as Mauricio Pochettino's side lost their cool, with Mousa Dembele suspended for six games after accepting an FA charge of violent conduct.

Hoddle wrote in his Mail on Sunday column that he thinks Tottenham lost too many points from winning positions leads this season to leave Claudio Ranieri's side with a first top-flight title in their 132-year history.

“When the pressure came, [Spurs] cracked," he said. “Manchester City and Arsenal fell by the wayside. Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea never even made it into the race.

"And even at the end, sadly from my point of view, Tottenham buckled. But Leicester kept their nerve.

"They will look back at those late defeats at home against Newcastle and Leicester and at the winning positions they have had in recent weeks against Arsenal, West Brom and Chelsea, and rue not seeing those games out.

"Especially when West Brom equalised with 17 minutes to go. There was still time to come back but they couldn’t even create a proper chance.

"Against Chelsea on Monday, of course, they lost their heads. They can learn from that and they can build on that."

Tottenham now face a battle to finish above north London rivals Arsenal for the first time in 20 years, with the Gunners facing Manchester City after Spurs host Southampton at White Hart Lane today.
