Jan Vertonghen will miss Tottenham's next Champions League match after being shown a late red card in Wednesday night's 3-1 win against Borussia Dortmund.
With Spurs seconds away from claiming a vital victory at Wembley, Vertonghen was shown a second yellow card by referee Gianluca Rocchi after catching Mario Gotze with a wayward arm in the 92nd minute of the game.
While contact was minimal, Vertonghen's dismissal means he will definitely miss Tottenham's next European test - their second Group H game - away at APOEL Nicosia on September 26.
Vertonghen joins Dele Alli on the sidelines, with the England international currently serving a three-match ban following his dismissal against Gent in the Europa League last term.

Alli also misses a prestigious trip to the Bernabeu to face Real Madrid on October 17, and Spurs fans initially feared Vertonghen could also be out for more than just the Cyprus trip to face APOEL.
Uefa's refereeing guidelines state: "In case of serious offences, the Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body is entitled to augment this punishment, including by extending it to other competitions."
However, Uefa have clarified that referee Rocchi showed Vertonghen a second yellow card, rather than a straight red.
Vertonghen will be unable to contest the decision given that Uefa only allows appeals against yellow cards in the case of mistaken identity, though the defender will almost certainly escape a potential ban for both Real Madrid games.
