For all 2,300 travelling Tottenham fans, the eleventh-hour postponement of yesterday’s match at Burnley was grim news – but spare a thought for American couple Ken and Brandy Saxton, who journeyed over 4,000 miles from Texas for the game.

The pair left home in Dallas at 6.30am on Friday morning, eventually arriving in Burnley at 10.30pm on Saturday night, some 31 hours later.

A tweet from Ken, detailing their gruelling trip with “no sleep” and “fuelled by coffee, cheese crackers and more coffee” went viral after the game was called off 50 minutes before kick-off due to heavy snow.

Harry Kane has since offered the Saxtons tickets for a home game, which they are planning to accept later today.

“How gracious of Harry to offer something like that to a supporter,” Ken told Standard Sport this morning, as they travelled back to London from Burnley.

“What a representative for the club and for England as a whole. For him to do something like that really humbles a supporter. It’s spectacular.

“The club reached out and said we’d be in touch with Harry at some point today. The Brentford match [on Thursday night], we already have tickets for. If Norwich [on Sunday] becomes a possibility, we’ll take him up on that offer.”

The couple are also planning to attend an evening with Spurs legends Ledley King and Michael Dawson on Wednesday, hosted by former player Micky Hazard, who also reached out after seeing Ken’s tweet.

“What’s happened in the last 24 hours is just surreal,” Ken added. “We’re very excited, very humbled. The toughest part of that is I wish every supporter who travelled up to Burnley come with me [on Wednesday].

“I’m not the first person this has ever happened to and I won’t be the last. You feel for every single supporter who went through that yesterday who have not had the extraneous things happened to them which happened to us, so feeling very blessed.”

The Premier League is working to find a new date, with late January a possibility depending on the clubs’ progress in the FA Cup.

While yesterday’s experience may have deterred some Spurs fans from returning to Burnley in a hurry, Ken and Brandy have not ruled out attending the rescheduled fixture.

“I’m down for coming back for any game as long as I can swing time off and the tickets, whether it’s Burnley or anywhere else,” Ken said. “I was excited to come up to Turf Moor and experience the atmosphere, so I’d do it again.”
